iPod malfunction

My ipod will not work! I hook my iPod up to my computer and iTunes recognizes it. It then tells me that I need to restore it. I click restore and begins to prepare ipod to be restored, then my ipod disconnects from the pc. Then iTunes tells me an error code. Does this everytime and i have tried everything I know and have read about so far to fix this problem. ANY HELP PLEASE!!
