Can somebody help me please? I'm scared im opening up a war about Windows/Macs so can we try to avoid that :)

I currently run a desktop PC on Windows XP, 2.59ghz, 4GB RAM. Intel penitum 4.

I'm looking to go from Windows to Mac, and a laptop...

I've seen a macbook pro

2.4ghz, 4gb ram,, intel i5

Is this a suitable 'upgrade' bearing in mind there is less ghz?

Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Considering you are going from a P4 to a I5 the ghz has no or little bearing on the issue. The I5 is a newer processor and is faster anyway.
I have nothing against Windows or Mac and the OS has very little to do with the specs you are describing.
If it were me i would go for it based on the specs and price.
