For the last 3 months every so often (1 in 10) my htpc was not starting without holding in power button for 10 sec, then would start up with no problems... Last month it got to every time no start without holding in for 10 and would come up with windows detected hardware error, run scan. This would take about 5 min but afterwards computer would run fine. Last week, it was hit and miss with starting up at all. Tonight while fiddling with it to try and start and possibly thinking I needed to try another PSU, had a few sparks and the smell of electrics....yeah!!!! I have now installed a new PSU (well the spare one that you never get rid of), Mobo light is on (green) but when pushing in start button, I hear little clicks as the fans (cpu, case) try to "turn over". I have removed everything, including cmos battery and replaced one at a time. I still get green light and fans moving for a ms at each tick. I am hoping it is not mobo though I do have another. I have as yet pulled mobo out and run a test outside the case. Any ideas apart from this???
