internal hard drive not found

I try to boot up and I get this message,internal hard drive not found.I have a dell latitude d610 with xp os.

Have you tried the check detailed below;
If a device is either not detected during the operating system setup or is detected but incorrectly configured, you can use the Hardware Troubleshooter to resolve the incompatibility:

Click the Start button and click Help and Support.


Type hardware troubleshooter in the Search field and click the arrow to start the search.


Click Hardware Troubleshooter in the Search Results list.


In the Hardware Troubleshooter list, click I need to resolve a hardware conflict on my computer, and click Next.

my laptop was working fine tell it got dropped.Now it will not boot up.It says,no boot sector on internal hard drive.no bootable devices.If I go into bios under device info primary hard drive = 1090 gb hdd

So it was dropped and you are wondering why the drive isnt detected? :)

Replace the drive.

Back up the HDD as a matter of urgency and as diabillic
said be prepared to purchase a new HDD this could be a warning
sign that it is on its way out.
