I noticed peopel are havign a similar problem.. I'm guessing this goes here... :-/

ok.. so. every now and then (actually more than that) when I close a certain folder... my task bar wil lock up... and a error comes up.. it's still locked up.. and only my browser works when this happens.. MSpaint works.. but when I try saving .. it locks up.. so I can't save the screen shot... so I'll type what the error says.

"DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

this has happened MULTIPLE times... and it always seems to happen after I close My Documents and sometimes when I close MS Paint. what do you think?

but like everything locks up except for my browser. and I end up having to shut it down by holding the power button.. becuase shutting down through Task Manager won't even work.
this is very annoying.

I run Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad- Aware SE personal, and Norton Anti-Virus regularly and never come up with anything. all of them are updated regularly as well.

oh and also... for some reason.. my screen goes black (like it was shut off) for a couple seconds randomly... anyone know what this is?

First, get rid of NewDotNet. Go to Control Panel:Add/Remove Programs and remove it. If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: http://www.newdotnet.com

Download/install/run LSPFix from http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
1. Run LSPFix.
2. Check 'I know what I'm doing'.
3. Select 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll'.
4. Click the right-pointing arrow (moves it to the "remove" page).
5. Click 'Finished'.
6. Restart your computer in "Safe Mode" (F5 or F8 when starting Windows).
7. Delete the following file: 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll'
8. Restart your computer and bring it up in normal mode.
That should get rid of your O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll' missing

[/b] Download, install,CleanUp!

Don't run it yet.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

okay.. I'm about to do this.. but I can't find newdotnet in the add/remove programs list... but I did find "Quick! toolbar" and on the newdotnet site it talks about "Quick!" do I take that off? is it the same thing?

and before I do anyhting... a couple questions...
removing that 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll' thing won't make my Xfire stop working, correct?

and same question for the Wildtangent and Winamp and Objectdock files in there... taking those off won't stop anyhtign from working will it?
I've removed somethign from Wild Tangent before (it showed up in ad aware) and it started coming up with all these warnings (wild tangent did)

I am not computer illiterate.. I know my way around a computer pretty well... but when you say save Hijack This to a permanant folder.. you mean move it to an actual folder rather than keep it where I downloaded it to? correct?

and also.. what is that Compaq Connections thing? almost everytime I shutdown my computer it comes up and asks me to end now.. very anoying.. anyways.. as soon as you answer these questions I'll be on my way to follow your instructions...

You are not deleting them. They are the applications that are listed in certain keys in the registry and the startup folders and are loaded automatically when Windows boots up. They can be started manually.

winampa

Loads the System Tray icon for the WinAmp media player. Can be used to mantain file associations so programs like QuickTime and RealPlayer don't take over as default player for various media types. Available via Start -> Programs

3. Please try this again:

get rid of NewDotNet. Go to Control Panel:Add/Remove Programs and remove it. If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: http://www.newdotnet.com (you already downloaded it)

4. Run CleanUp!

5. Reboot, Run Hijack This and post a new log.

Open the Control Panel’s Add/Remove Programs list and use the entries for ‘New.net domains’ (B variant), ‘FirstLook’ (FirstLook variant) and ‘QuickSearch Toolbar’ (QuickSearch variant).

If these options are unavailable, try looking in the Windows folder and the Program Files\NewDotNet folder for an uninstaller. NewDotNet/B typically leaves uninstaller files here. There may be more than one; if so, try the installer with the highest version number in its name.

Download/install/run LSPFix from http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
1. Run LSPFix.
2. Check 'I know what I'm doing'.
3. Select 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll'.
4. Click the right-pointing arrow (moves it to the "remove" page).
5. Click 'Finished'.
6. Restart your computer in "Safe Mode" (F5 or F8 when starting Windows).
7. Delete the following file: 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll'
8. Restart your computer and bring it up in normal mode.
That should get rid of your O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'xfire_lsp_9733.dll' missing

Please run the lsp fix above.
