problems with external hd, how to turn off write-protection

i just got a new pc and it has windows 7 64-bit. after pluging in my external hg, it runs just fine but somehow it became write protected.

Edit:
ok i get what's up.
anyone know how to take off the write protection on my external hd?

Um, why are you resetting the permissions in the first place?

If you want to go into a folder and the permissions are wrong, Windows will reset them automatically. You shouldn't have to do anything else.

see the thing is i can't do anything. i can't rename, add new folder or delete anything. i just get a pop up saying that it's write protected.
i just don't know what to do.

i came across this it works but it keeps becoming write protected so i have to do it all again.
any ideas?
