Read-Only Removal in Excel

I have an Excel file that has somehow become a Read-Only document. I can resave the document under another name (which is a PITA) and it can be edited under that file name until I close it, then it goes back to Read-Only again.

I went through the help section and followed the procedures to remove the Read-Only designation. The problem is that under Attributes, Archives is checked, Read-Only is not and all 4 boxes are greyed out so I cannot change any of them.

Can someone help me resolve this issue?
