Hi,

I am trying to clean up a PC for a friend that must have had over 200 various infections....

The steps I have taken up to now are the followings:

1. Installed and run Microsoft Antispyware
2. Installed and run Ad-Aware
3. Installed and run Spy-Boot
4. Full Online Scan with RAV Antivirus
5. Runned CWShredder
6. Some clean up with Hijack using some of the good advice on this forum.

The system seems to be clean except for a persistant BHO that I don't seems to be able to remove at all. Here is the log of my Hijack scan.... any help on this matter would be appreciated.

Welcome to GTG.

I assume you mean this BHO entry?

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {673F9A28-9097-A24C-4C78-AD4DAE190F33} - (no file)

Try closing Microsoft Antispyware and then fixing that entry again in HijackThis.

If it still comes back, do this:

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\ and delete {673F9A28-9097-A24C-4C78-AD4DAE190F33}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ and delete {673F9A28-9097-A24C-4C78-AD4DAE190F33}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {673F9A28-9097-A24C-4C78-AD4DAE190F33}

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Greyknight17,

Thanks a lot, the trick with shutting down Microsoft Antispyware didn't work but the workaround with the registry deletion fix the case of that "coming back" problem.

Again thanks
