A few days ago I was using my computer (Windows XP PC) and all of the sudden the internet connection failed. I have been unable to access the internet since that time. My router is WRT120N and I have my laptop (Windows Vista) and PC running from it. The laptop is wireless and works fine (it is what I am using now) but the wired PC will not access the internet. I unplugged all cables, let it sit for awhile, plugged back in and rebooted, no luck. The orange light is working on the back of the PC so I know the connection is not dead. I found a site that walked me thru different ways of troubleshooting the "Internet Explorer cannot dispaly the Webpage" screen and so far none of it's suggestions have worked. Although one was saying to start the PC in safe mode and my computer will not allow me to do so - so I am wondering if I have a hardware problem? Any thoughts are appreciated on this matter. Thank you.

I am thinking that you have already deleted all the temp files in the C - Temp and C - windows - temp folders.
Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, click Restore Defaults.
There is another option on Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab = 'reset' (Reset Internet Explorer settings. Delete all temp files, disable browser add-on's, & resets all the changed settings. You should only use this if your browser is in an unusable state.
I am also thinking you have tried the microsoft answers?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196
and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213
Have you looked into resetting the router? The problem may lie there.

Try to connect the laptop to the router using the cable. If it works, the problem is with the PC. It it doesn't it's either with the router or the cable.

It is working now! thanks so much for the feedback. The last step I did before it started working again was to:
Open Internet Explorer.
Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Click Reset all zones to default level, and then click OK.
This method was from the second suggested microsoft link that was posted above (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213) and one that I had not seen earlier.
Thanks again, I can go to bed less stressed now:)
