No sound on windows XP

Hi there about two hours ago my computers sound went.
I have restarted computer but it is still the same.
When I go to control panel and click 'sounds, audio devices etc.' and click advanced volume controls it says " there are no active mixers available, please install a mixer"??
Hope someone can help

What devices do you have listed there?
Any errors shown?

Computer brand and model, please.
