Printer outputs blank pages

My Dell 920 printer (connected to my pc with Xp) works fine in printing a xxx.doc file.
But when I try to print a webpage application form, in PDF format, the printer goes through the motions of printing but the pages come out blank.file. What basic thing am I doing wrong? Thanks.
