I am University student looking for a new laptop but I have no idea where to start. I dont speak computer so doing online research is REALLY hard.

Price : 500-1000$ the lower the better!
15" screen
good battery life
portable ie not to heavy
storage space for homework, music, movies
wireless internet
it doesnt have to be OVERLY stylish but I dont want a thinkpad...
