I hope you can help.

i am also getting a 'Windows Explorer' error. Has encountered a problem and needs to close.

This appears at start up all the time, and even if i select 'Close' it comes straight back. I have searched the web but still can not fix it.

Thank you for your consideration

Regards.

Liam.

Start in Safe Mode please on F8 - just Safe Mode - NOT safe mode with networking see if it still reports errors.
Download this
http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
and run it please - see if helps to identify the cause.

IN Safe Mode Open My Computer, right click the HDD carrying Windows, click Properties, click Tools, click Error Checking, click Check Now, click to check the box automatically fix file system errors, click Start and aggre to run on restart and then do so.
On chkdsk results, although we can obtain it through other means, note what is recorded re errors.

If we are back in without crashes. on Tools menu of IE8 click on Manage Add-ons. Report which you have please or screenshot it.
On the Safety tab, Delete Browsing History. Be aware if the check box re saved passwords.

O23 - Service: PnkBstrA - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe

You have this running - from your HiJack log, usually installed with various games, if you do not need it uninstall it, usually left when the games are uninstalled.

Thanks Macboatmaster,

Has helped.

No crash dumps found though.

I am still getting the 'Windows Exporer has encountered a problem and needs to close.' error on start up. Even when i select the 'close' option on this message it still comes back immediatly!

Thanks again for your help.

If Who crashed gave no idea.
Go Control Panel Administrative Tools, Event Viewer and see if anything is recorded in System and Application which will most likely have a red shield.
Do this in Safe Mode.
Whilst there in Application look to Winlogon and provide details of chkdsk.
Any bad sectors, any file errors.
