I recently backed up all my computer info with windows easy transfer to go from old comp to new one. I then reinstalled Windows XP on my old computer to start fresh. My problem is now I cannot connect to the internet and I am sure that I am missing drivers. I am not real computer savvy, but was impressed that I got this far and would hate to conceed now.

I know my router and is a D-link and the external modem is a speedstream 4200, as well as my isp user id and password. What else might I need? or any layman instructions that might help.

Thanks

:D and I'm sorry to hear about your issue.

Is this a laptop or desktop?
Name brand or custom built?
If name brand what make and model?
Is custom what make and model is the motherboard?
Is the nic built on the motherboard or is it a add on card?

This is a desktop. A Dell Dimension 4700C. Nothing custom that I know of.

Original drivers from Dell HERE
Now be careful to get the right one. There are two, one is the wireless and the other is the integrated one.
They are in the Network category.

how do i get them when I can't accessthe internet from that computer. Can I save them on a usb flash drive and install from there or do you know why I can't configure /connect to the internet. I have an account that was using on the desktop first. Could having a router be part of the problem. I could access the internet on the old computer and the laptop before I tried the reinstall of windows xp.

Use the system you are posting from to download the driver. Put it on a usb driver and copy it to your Dell computer.
Install it from there.
Once you formatted and reinstalled the driver is gone unless you used a Dell recovery disk for that system. If you used a plain XP OS installation disk it would not contain the drivers for that system.
Having the router has nothing to do with it at this point.
To verify do the following:
Please Go to

1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop
