Noob here, so if I am in wrong place for my question please dont get mad.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 that I am trying to restore to factory settings so that I can give it away.
I have the win xp cd for reinstall but when I put it in, it tells me that the version I have is newer than the computer.
I have tried to reboot and do the f11 and ctrl and it doesn't work. Please help!

Go Control Panel, Administrative functions,Computer Management, Disk Management. Is there a partition on the HDD. If there is then this should be the recovery partition.
As the computer boots and the blue bar and dell screen appear press Ctrl and F11 together.

This computer was NOT, I think originally provided with an XP CD, if that is correct, then which XP CD are you using please.
Is there label with the COA (Cert. of Authenticity) and Product Key for the XP installation on the computer
