Connected but not connected

I go to 'connect to network' and easily connect to my network, but i cant access the internet, and on no other screen but the network connector one am i shown to be connected. Everyone else in my house can connect, so i'm assuming it's my laptop having the problem. I've reset the router and made a new network but doesnt make a difference. I'm on XP, have a virgin media connection and am using a d-link router. I'm sure I hadn't had any problems until I moved into the house this week. I'm on my girlfriend's laptop in her house at the mo, but i'm struggling to live in my own house without the internet. HELP ME PLEASE!!
