Windows XP service pack 3. When a quick scan on the antivirus was performed, the scanning froze at 99%. It stopped at cookies. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but no change. Also the scanning wouldn't stop after clicking stop. Had to turn off computer. Can you tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? Thank you

What program is that? Are you having another antivirus, or any other antimalware program running at the same time?

The malware forum of this site recommends the following antivirus programs (all free): Microsoft Security Essentials (first priority), Avira, Avast and AVG. If the program you installed is one of these four, uninstall it and install one of the others.

Remove Trend Micro and install one of the programs I mentioned in my previous post.
