k well since im going to have to probably buy the operating system, does it matter if i use a 32-bit versus 64-bit installation disc if i'm going to be using the serial number of the computer and not the cd case, anyway?

Q and As regarding 32 and 64bit are explained here http://windows.micro...sked-questions.
As you do not mind formatting the HDD you could do as Dark Player suggested in post #6 and upgrade to W7 64bit.
