I noticed my Vista machine on startup started flashing up different menues and and the mouse was moving very fast. When I looked later I found avast had been uninstalled.

A few times I saw a box come up saying 'success this works'. So I reformatted the HD and installed XP and Windows 7 fresh as a dual boot.

Then the second time I booted the 7 OS it started flashing up different menues and some desktop setting were changed.

All I had put on to the windows 7 was ovi suite for my mobile, some updates from microsoft, and a new version of avast.

Although it hasn't happened since, could it be a virus in BIOS or perhaps, I am mistaken and the system simply sped up for a short time, indicating hardware fault?
