iTunes Store Can't Connect

I have iTunes 10 installed, and each time I try to connect to the iTunes store I receive this message:

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection was timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network settings are active, then try again.
"


Please help. Any help would be great. I'm not a geek person so please make your response very simple.
