Help! - When turing on the laptop the screen for one second starts (kind of a redish color) and then goes black - - the lock 9 key comes on and usually eventually goes out - - the laptop stays on - I here fan running and can sometimes faintly see WINDOWS in the darken screen - - like it is working but screen is DARK.

Please do the following and supply the requested information as needed. If you
don't understand my instructions please ask and I will try to explain them
clearer for you. Do not attempt any steps unless instructed or ask before to
make sure they will not cause any further issues.

It sounds like your laptop screen is failing. What I would suggest you try is a external monitor plugging it into the vga connection on the back of the laptop. If that monitor shows a screen then the problem is the laptop screen.
If it does not show a screen then the problem could be the video on your laptop has failed.
