I have been reading earlier threads about this same problem of DrWatson Post Mortem Debugger error message when trying to access my Control Panel. I have also tried following some advice but I cannot see any obviously malicious files in the HijackThis log.

I would appreciate it if someone who knew what they were doing could advise me on any bad files in this log and perhaps help me with their removal, since doing this under my own initiative isnt likely. I see that there are mixed results from the earlier threads...would it be simpler in the long run to wipe my PC?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Messenger Plus - this program contains a 'sponsor' program. If you installed this 'sponsor' program, please uninstall Messenger Plus and reinstall it back but without the sponsor. In this case, I'm pretty sure you DID install it. I recommend not using it at all. :tazz:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.wpliwedrh...mK681jxw0k.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart
O16 - DPF: {AD7FAFB0-16D6-40C3-AF27-585D6E6453FD} -

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Wow, thanks for such a rapid response with that one. I followed them instructions and when removing msnplus from the addremove programs option, it gave me the options to remove, i selected them all but then when I clicked OK it returned to the programs list however the application file size was smaller. I did however follow the rest of your instructions and the logfile is now as follows:

Thankyou

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

P.S I have been reading your spyware information an dI notice you instruct to use msconfig and then activate everything in the startup tab. I have deselected many things in the past to speed up booting of windows, would i need to select them and run HijackThis again?

Is this log done from Normal Mode of Safe Mode? Make sure you give me the log in Normal Mode. Only the fix should be done in Safe Mode.

If you know that the programs you disabled using msconfig are ok to keep, then it's no big deal. So unless you unchecked a bad program (a program that's spyware related perhaps), you may leave them alone. I only mention it because not all users know about it or they actually uncheck the bad programs to see if it makes them go away.

OK, give me this log:

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs...p?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs...?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here.

OK, you did disable a handful of bad ones there. We'll fix it up now:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SexNow] C:\WINDOWS\SexNow.exe -n
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sentprfe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sentprfe.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kfmupwfdatrk] C:\WINDOWS\System32\jrsdre.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iydjnaixkoj] C:\WINDOWS\System32\jrsdre.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ikxwbu] C:\WINDOWS\System32\jrsdre.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bias 64 dead bike] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MultiDvdBias64\dale tray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [alchem] C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wave help] C:\DOCUME~1\Mark\APPLIC~1\DALERE~1\RdrSetupTime.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\SexNow.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sentprfe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\jrsdre.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MultiDvdBias64\
C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Mark\APPLIC~1\DALERE~1\

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Hmmm, I was suspicious about some of them. I have completed those fixes and here is the new logfile. Is the TDS scan a good sign its not a Trojan?

Thanks,
Mark

Yes, as far as the TDS-3 can find out, there are no trojans it can detect.
