Hi Everyone! I hope someone can help me! :D

About 6-8 weeks ago I started getting the "blue screen of death" popping up on my computer and of course crash it. It keeps telling there is a bad driver somewhere or something IOQ is higher or equal to something else (I am not a computer expert sorry)

I dont know what to do! it happens at the most random times and I havent added any software or hardware other than a new video card but that was 7 or 8 months ago and from what I can tell, the video card is working properly.

Is there a way to test your drivers or test the whole system to see if it is working properly?

I am at my wits end on this one and need some help

thanks so much!

Hello paukide.... Welcome to
GeeksToGo, :D
;) ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. We will try to help you resolve this as soon
as possible.
Please understand we are all volunteers and we are not here all the time.
Sometimes it may be a extended amount of time to get back to you. If it has been
more then 3 days please shoot me a PM and I will try to get back to you quickly
then.
Please do the following and supply the requested information as needed. If you
don't understand my instructions please ask and I will try to explain them
clearer for you. Do not attempt any steps unless instructed or ask before to
make sure they will not cause any further issues.

  • Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso VEW and save it to your Desktop:
  • Double-click VEW.exe
  • Under 'Select log to query', select (as appropriate):
    • Application
    • System
  • Under 'Select type to list', select (as appropriate):
    • Error
    • Information
    • Warning
Then use the 'Date of events' or 'Number of events' as follows:

Either:
  • Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 3 in the 1 to 20 box (or any number from 1 to 20)
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

  • Click the radio button for 'Date of events'
In the From: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
In the To: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.
Please post the Output log in your next reply

Hi paulkid,
Download and run Sandra Lite from here http://download.cnet...4-10556571.html this will generate a report on your systems health, highlight issues and make recommendations on fixes, do not run it if you are in a hurry as it takes some time to complete, you can use belarc advisor also; http://download.cnet...4-10007277.html

OK first issue is Roxio. Please uninstall it for the time being to make sure it's nto causing any more problem right now.
Once that is done please do the following.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
[/list]

Go to:

Start and then My Computer
Right Click On "C" drive and then click on Properties
Click on Tools tab at the top
In the Error Checking field click Check Now

When that is done

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

Reboot and let me know how system is running now

Hi rshaffer61

I deleted all the Roxio software as you suggested (question....how do I burn CDs after all this? LOL)

Well anyway i ran the ATF Cleaner and it deleted over 110mg of junk. I then ran the Error Check on the C drive. It asked me to reboot and it would run then so I rebooted and it did indeed run before Windows signed on. It ran for quite a while going through its 5 stages. When it got to the last stage and was just about 99% complete I got a blue death screen that said, "session5_initialization_failed"

So i shut down and rebooted and the "Error Checking" started all over again from stage 1. In fact, I rebooted several times but it would not let Windows start and would not let me bypass the Error Checking. I eventually rebooted in Safe Mode and started up under "Last Known Good Configuration"

so I have not completed this action and will try again tonight. I have not downloaded Auslogics Defrag yet because I think you want me to try to complete the Error Checking....is that right? What if I get the Blue Screen Stage 5 Failure again? :D

Well anyway, I will try again if you tell me that is the way to go

thanks again so much for your help with all this

hi rshaffer61

I finally got everything to work and I am now running the defrag you suggested. After I ran the Disk Check, my Spy Sweeper wouldnt load and I kept getting an error box which said, "ehrecver.exe Broadcast error"...this box kept popping up every couple of minutes so I shut down manually and rebooted and everything loaded up. so I think alright (unless you see an issue here of course).

like i said I am now running the Auslogics Disk DefraG so once done I will let you know what it found and we can go on to next steps if any. Havent had any blue screens so dont know if all this fixed it. :D

so please dont close me out yet ;)

thank you so much again!

hi rshaffer61

okay...I have done all the tasks :D it seems to be running good. Are there any next steps? ;)

a few questions.....is there anything other programs I should be running on my computer to boost speed and ensure that my machine is clean? I removed all the Roxio programs from my system. You didnt seem to like them too much. Are there other programs you like better for burning CDs and DVDs?

thanks buddy ;)

It's not that I don't like Roxio but that it was part of the issue you were having.
it very well may work if you install it again.
You can go HERE and scroll down the page about 7 catagories and you will see free burning software you can get.
I would suggest CDBurnerXP
