I have a problem with my dell dvdrw drive. it does not read or play my dvds but it reads and plays my cds. what does this mean?

any suggestions are welcomed

Is this also happening with retail bought dvd's or rented dvd's?

What is the model number of your "dell dvdrw drive"? (Check in Device Manager).

It mainly does not play rented dvd's, however, these dvd's do play on my dvd hooked to my TV and in my dad's computer. so I don't know what the problem is. the model my computer's dvd is, TSST dvd+ rw TS-H653F. am I gonna have replace my dvd drive?

Sounds like the dvd side of your drive has died.
The only option is to replace the drive. :D

one last question, though. are all SATA drives the same size. I looked for my drive's model to replace it with but couldn't find it. So, I looked at other models but wasn't sure which to buy.........
