since i put a new harddrive in my notebook i have been unable to play a dvd. when i put in a dvd it tries to use interactual player. i tried to update it however i want let me update it. does anyone have any ideas? thanks

Interactual player must haveben installed with some movie you watched.
Check your start menu for it and if there uninstall it.
If not there try looking in the Control Panel then to Add\Remove programs

ok i did this now i am wondering how i can get a movie to open and play with windows media center or player?

ok thanks for the help. i was able to follow the instructions and i did set it up as the default player however now i get a message that sais NO COMPATIBLE D.V.D. DECODER INSTALLED

I would just use the free VLC Media Player, which can be found HERE.

Fenor is correct as VLC has all the codecs already.
If you want to try at the top of the WMP windows go to Help then click on Search for updates
See if that finds any.

thanks everyone the vlc worked very well. i hooked the notebook up to the tv and i watched shrek with my little girl for the first time. thanks again
