Unresponsive Disk Drive

Hi there. New to the forum, but have used it to solve a problem in the past, so I figured I'd throw this new one out there. The disk drive in my laptop has recently been having an episode. When I initially power on the computer, it responds fine. But as soon as Windows boots up, it goes completely unresponsive, it won't even open. Anyone know anything about that?
