I am looking for a replacement printer for my desktop PC. I do not want an "all-in-one" or "4-in-1" device. In my opinion, those provide little quality in either printing, scanning or faxing. I am looking for a simple printer, no need for color, simple black & white printer. My question: "what is the best option for a simple B&W printer? Laser or Ink?"

Laser, Im not sure why the one at the link below says "all in one" because it isn`t one, it may be what you are looking for though!

I think all Laser (at least entry level ones) are B&W/Monochrome, correct? I am tired of being told that a BW/Color Ink jet is a good option when in fact the quality is so terrible; if I need to print color, I will take it to a print house.

Hi,I have had a Kyocera FS600 for 10+ years and had no problems except for the odd paper jam. I do geneaology research & print hundreds of sheets & have only used 3 toner cartridges in this time, still on the 3rd. Very reliable. Have just upgraded the internal memory. This link is only a UK site but you could find a supplier in your location.

The cheapest laser printers are B&W, correct.

BW/Color Ink jet is a good option when in fact the quality is so terrible;

This depends on the quality of 1: The printer 2: The quality of the ink 3: The quality of the paper.

if I need to print color, I will take it to a print house.

Fine if you only ever need to print in B&W.
For a no nonsense review of B&W laser printers here is a link http://www.consumers...nochrome/review

@deggit - same here; I am heavily involved in genealogy and local history. Over the last 4 year I have been printing at a cost since my Ink Jet at home was terrible.

Thanks folks!
