Ask and you shall receive
Dell Drivers Page
It should already take your directly to the XP drivers.

find a compatible driver for the vga, smbus and base device for windows xp pro?

VGA there is only one driver to get so no problem there.
SMBUS there are 3 different ones so make sure you get the right one
Base Device I'm not sure which one that will be

Can you get the exact error message please? That will help in figuring out the issue with that.
Also please do the following:
Please Go to

1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

All drivers are here...:

http://support.dell....tid=-1&impid=-1

You do not want the chipset ati smbus driver as you have an AMD system... Get the chipset for the AMD...

so then u must be an evil dead fan. dido. hey guys I dled the drivers this morning and everything went sweet as candy; however, the system abruptly froze(like jammed up no mouse no caps lock light) and on restart windows xp pro wouldnt load past the splash screen for the o.s. Now im thinking my hard drive is going. I was thinking relaod the system once more because i did fill it with a few iffy drivers before i could completely download the ones i needed off of dells website. for some reason when i tried dling dell drivers the first time they were incomplete, so i would get crazy error messages. i guessi can also run seagate diagnostics. what are your thoughts?

Well now lets do this right then. Please do the following first:
Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Thanks to Broni for the instructions

That is great to hear and yes the wrong bit drivers will cause a lot of problems. Yes I like the Evil Dead series along with the Dead movies. :D
