when i shut down my new dell laptop (windows 7). i got that occasional "updating windows 1 of 7. Please Do Not Power Off Or Unplug Your Machine"

the problem is, it did that for the whole day. i know something was already wrong so i force shut it down but everytime i try to boot. it goes directly to that screen. the round loading icon just indicates that its just loading. its been two days now.

- i cant F8 and boot from cd or safe mode. it goes directly to that screen.

any ideas guys? reformatting is usually my last option but this time i just have too many valuable files and i cant boot f8/boot from cd.

im at wits end :D ;) ;) ;) :(

Delete all files in these two folders, but not the folder itself.

Open these folders and click 'edit', 'select all', then click the delete key on your keyboard.

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

Then run Microsoft Windows Update.

I think maybe an Ubuntu Live CD (or something similar) may work
