G'day guys

After doing a little research i have noticed there is a lot of different models brands etc..so i wanted to put in here what appeals to me and see if i can get a heads up on compatibility and/or alternatives.I am upgrading an AMD 4200+ with a M2V board,7900gto graphics card and 2gb ram.
So what i was looking at was
CPU: AMD Phenom 11 x4 955
Mother Board: ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE AM3 DDR3
Graphics Card: nVidea 9800gtx 1Gb

I also wanted to upgrade to 8Gb ram and i think i will need about a 1000 watt power supply as well,as i am currently using XP Home 32bit I am assuming i need too go to 64bit,is windows7 the answer or can i upgrade XP?

So i guess i need opinions and/or advise on my selections,will they work together,because at this stage all the model numbers are starting to blur into each other and confuse me.

You can only upgrade to Vista from XP. Window 7 64bit is the way to go as any 32bit OS can only utilise just under 4GB of ram.

What is the existing case?

What is the computer going to be used for?

Give us a budget otherwise we might give you specs for a dream machine..

Thanks for the heads up on windows,so 7 will be the way to go for sure.
My existing case is an ntrix ATX tower,it has blue neon lights and temp gauges etc on the fron panel,im pretty sure they referred to it as a mid tower,its definately a big tower so im assuming size wise its okay.
The PC is for general use but i do like my games,what prompted me to look at upgrade was a game called Silent Hunter 5,I bought this PC about 2006 when 512Mb video cards were the bees knees,only took about 4 months to become obsolete.
I have'nt really thought about budget at all,i just dont really want to replace stuff that i dont need to,but to put a figure on what i was looking at in my previous post i was so far up to around $500-$700.The only reason im hestitant about a "dream machine" is that they all too quickly become "yesterdays" dream,so i was looking at pumping it up to about a 7( 1 being what i have...and 10 being a dream machine)

PSU would be left until all other parts are selected, should be 850w max.

Will do 2 builds The motherboards may seem expensive build will give options for the future. Builds will be good for work and gaming, should last 3 years, with upgrade options, CPU, video card to give another 2 years.

Hope your feelin better,sorry i did a typo on the case its Atrix not ntrix,its just the "a" looks like a "n" on the case,i attached a photo of the case if it helps,looking forward to the AMD version as i have always had an affinity for AMD,not for any reason,its just thats what i seem to end up with,but i will have a good look at the Intel info you have given.From what i've seen so far you seem to be spot on the same thought path as me,thank you.

NOTE. Link for the motherboard was the first one I chose from Staticice. There are cheaper available.
