OK that looks corrupted. This time I would like you to do the following

Download a fresh copy of Norton
Make a note of your license key for it
Uninstall Norton
Reboot
Re-install Norton

Let me know if that clears the alerts

Hi EssexBoy,

Thanks for the advice

Looks as though uninstalling Norton and re-installing latest version 2011

has done the trick "no more alerts at present"

Do I need to do a clean up on OTL?

One last bit of advice please, after carrying out all these alterations my pc is running very slow, can you advise what software I can use to speed my pc up!

Many thanks once again you have been a star, can not thank you enough, your a tribute to Geeks To Go

Kind Regards

No problem - run OTL and hit the cleanup button - poof it's gone

Lets run through the spring clean again as removing norton and then putting it back may well have fragmented your drive

To manually create a new Restore Point

  • Go to Control Panel and select System and Maintenance
  • Select System
  • On the left select Advance System Settings and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection Tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name i.e. Clean
  • Select Create

Now we can purge the infected ones

  • Go back to the System and Maintenance page
  • Select Performance Information and Tools
  • On the left select Open Disk Cleanup
  • Select Files from all users and accept the warning if you get one
  • In the drop down box select your main drive i.e. C
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations
  • Select the More Options tab
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete

You are now done

THEN

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

FINALLY

Re-run puran defrag and let me know how that runs

To try and ease the startup try this, by reducing the number of start up items you we ease the resources being used by the system

Download Startup Control Panel here get the exe standalone version
Install and you will find a startup icon in the control panel - run this
  • In the HKLM tab, you may disable (be careful --> "disable") all the entries except your security software
  • In the HKCU tab, you may disable all entries.
  • In the StartUp tab, you may disable all entries.
Note : if you notice that some programs no longer run, you can enable them again by running Startup Control Panel, selecting the entry and choosing Run Now.
If you are in doubt with something, don't hesitate to ask :D
