vista laptop. i keep getting successful updates for windows defender; but it is sitting in my programs folder. it is not in use. are these updates going to defender or are they getting put somewhere else. just curious.

They are updates to Defender definition files, so Defender can actually find bad stuff.
This is normal behaviour.
