I have a Dell D800 with XP PRO. I think I erased windows explorer. I want to repair. When I admin sign on, the only thing that comes up is my background pic. Nothing else. I have to use task manager to do anything. I went and got a(good, real)copy of xp(not original).

I have another issue. My laptop only has 1/3 of a screen. I have it hooked up to another monitor. On the F12 menu, I cannot boot from cd. On the F2 menu I can't really see how to get to the BIOS menu because the monitor won't come on until I sign into the computer(follow me?) Any ideas, except for a new comp

Thanks

Its not bootlegged. It's from a school.

I know all my passwords and don't have any trouble with that. I just can't see what keys I need to hit to get to the BIOS screen

Try this:

  • Boot the computer from your Windows XP CD.
  • When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen press [Enter] to start the Windows Setup.

Note: Do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).
  • Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
  • Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and then press [R] to start the repair. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.
  • Do not press any key to boot from CD if and when such a message appears. Setup will then continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

On one of my Dell's it's [Delete] and on another it's [F2].
