Hi, my computer just stopped booting past the loading screen today. I try to boot in safe mode but it doesn't work and also before my computer stopped booting i couldn't type anything with my keyboard. I am thinking this is related to why i can't boot to safe mode. Once my computer gets to the loading screen it freezes and makes this beeping noise. I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 with 2.5 gb ram. Also, i would like to say that I cannot wipeout the computer and reinstall the operating system because i got the computer for free refurbished and it did not come with a disk for the os system it just had the os on it already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok lets start.

On the clean computer.

• Download the attached Scan.txt and save it to your USB stick.
   Scan.txt   394bytes   444 downloads
• Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
• Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
• Double click OTLPEStd.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD

On the infected computer.

• Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
  Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
• As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
  
• Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
  Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
• Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
• Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
• When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
• When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
• Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
• OTL should now start.
• Double click Custom scans and fixes box, a dialogue box will appear. Choose the scan.txt saved previously on your USB drive.
• Press Run Scan to start the scan.
• When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
• Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system.
• Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
• Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
• You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
• Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.

I tried to boot the computer using the cd but when i press the F2 it says, "entering setup" and the freezes.

Can you try pressing F12 on boot up and see if it brings up the "boot order menu".

I've tried that too but it freezes even faster when i press f12.

Hi GloriaD,

If the lockups are occurring in the BIOS, that pretty much rules out software.

I now suggest you head to the Hardware, Components and Peripherals as the problem appears to be hardware related – they will be able to provide better advice than I can. Post a link to this topic and explain that you are being helped here but could not proceed due to the problem.

If the freezes have been sorted out and you're still experiencing malware issues, post back to this thread (you may PM a moderator to open the topic if its locked) and I'll be glad to assist you with malware issues.
