If you're running cleanup!, you are cleaning out your temp. files. I'm finishing up my job and will get back to you on your other questions in about 30 minutes.

Go to start>>run>>type in msconfig

Are these three items unchecked? If not, they need to be unchecked.

IPUB32.EXE
WINIT32.EXE
NETNI32.EXE

Please reboot into safe mode (turn off your computer. Wait 30 seconds and restart it. When it starts up again, lightly tap F8).

Going into windows explorer (please don't use the search function), find these

IPUB32.EXE
WINIT32.EXE
NETNI32.EXE

and Delete them. I have given you instructions prior to this on how to show all hidden files and folders.

Please run hijack this and put a check mark next to these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = ftp=localhost:8081;http=localhost:8081

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WINIT32.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\WINIT32.EXE /s

Reboot, and post a new log.

Are you on dial-up? What happens when you try to establish an internet connection?

Sorry Diane for not getting back with you sooner. I was out of town.

What specific error message are you receiving from Symantec. I need to know what it says exactly?

Do you have this service from Symantec?

pcAnywhere TCP/IP connections

I am not sure about the service it just post a error stating no tcp/ip installed. It tells me to click on the more knowledge and then I get no page found like all other attempts to access web sites.

I did run a virus check with symantec and winit32 is still showing up. It can't delete it either.

I had no problem waiting for your reply because I have been straight out and can only get to this when I have time and that is a very small window. Maybe I should go out of town too.

here is new log in case it helps. I also posted another reply to the winsock issue thinking the problem may have come from when I ran the fix usetobe sent me. It seems to have started after that. Is that possible?

I ran the fix usetobe sent me

What are you talking about? Was he helping you in chat? What was the fix and when did you try it?

Do you have internet connections but no ability to pull up web pages? I understood you could access the internet.

These directions should re-enable your tcp/ip connection.

this is what I did on June 4th. It was right after that I could no longer get e-mail. I am able to connect but still not able to do anything. I get "this page cannot be displayed.
I will try the directions you sent to help with tcp/ip
thanks

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you may see one or more instances of xxxxxx.dll.
5. Select every instance of xxxxxxx.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish>>.

xxxxxx.dll is the name of the .dll causing the winsock problems
