I have an Asus G7G2X, I've had it for under 6 months.
At first, I didn't know what the problem was, it had just started to freeze whenever it wanted. I put it in safe mode, and put it in selective start up. Only picked the programs that were ultimately necessary. It stopped freezing. I opened YIM, since it had been one of the programs I had deselected, and it froze. I uninstalled YIM, reinstalled it, opened the program; froze once more. I ended up going on a site called Meebo, so I could fulfill my IM needs, and it froze. I then went onto webmessenger.yahoo.com and it's completely fine. Finally, just now, I tried to run a streaming program from livestream.com and it decided to freeze. Something odd that also happens that I haven't noticed before with other computer that freezes is that the sound/music makes an annoying "EEEEEE" when it happens. Just to specify, the screen dosen't go black, it looks like a screen shot.

Here are my System specs:
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53 GHz
Installed Memory: 6.00 GB
And it's a 64-bit OS

Big problem I see right away.

C: (NTFS) 238469 MB (9042 MB free)
Problem Disk free space is only 4% on drive C:.

At 10% the Master File Table can become corrupt and cause the system to become unbootable.
This is probably the cause of most of your problems.
Lets try to open some space up before we go any further.

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

Once we get some space opened up then I will start with the autoruns.

I'm glad you noticed that, oh man.
I went ahead and moved a lot of my things to another drive, so I have 84 GB free now. I also ran the programs you requested, so that's done now as well.

How is the system running now?
Are you still getting a lot of freezing?

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

+ "DivXUpdate"
+ "iTunesHelper"
+ "QuickTime Task"
+ "googletalk"
+ "msnmsgr"

When done restart computer and then:
Rerun the Defrag steps from post 4 to clean up leftover stuff from the autoruns.
Let me know how the system is running when done with everything. :D

Yes, unfortunately it still freezes when I try to log into a messenger. Don't know if this is important, but I got this screen after I had to force restart it.

Nope that's good. It means the system is doing what it is suppose to when a crash happens.
Lets check to see if we can find the source of the problem.
Download WhoCrashed from the link in my signature below
This program checks for any drivers which may have been causing your computer to crash....

Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.

Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next
Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon then click on Install and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish
Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it Say Yes
WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it
Copy and paste it into your next reply

  • Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso VEW and save it to your Desktop:
  • Double-click VEW.exe
  • Under 'Select log to query', select (as appropriate):
    • Application
    • System
  • Under 'Select type to list', select (as appropriate):
    • Error
    • Information
    • Warning
Then use the 'Date of events' or 'Number of events' as follows:

Either:
  • Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
Type 3 in the 1 to 20 box (or any number from 1 to 20)
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

  • Click the radio button for 'Date of events'
In the From: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
In the To: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
    Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.
Please post the Output log in your next reply

WhoCrashed didn't prompt me to install a debugger, also I'm having an issue with the event viewer, it says it can't find the VEW.txt file and it asks me if I want to create a new file. I press yes, but nothing shows up in notepad. Tried doing a quick search for it, but couldn't find it.

Well that is actually good news with WhoCrashed as it means we're not dealing with a driver issue.
Since the event viewer I suggested won't work lets check the Win7 event viewer.
Please follow the steps below to enter the Event Viewer program in Vista\Win7. This will give me more information into what is causing your issue. You can get to Event viewer two ways and I will post both for you.

Method One

• Go to
• Start
• In the Search box type in Event Viewer in the search box and press Enter
• From this point you can follow from step four from the below method as they will be the same.
Method Two

• Go to Start
• Right click on the Computer Icon and select Manage
• Navigate to the Event Viewer, You will be prompted to accept the action you are going to perform. Click continue
• On the left window pane click on Local and then expand the Windows entry. This will allow you to see every error for the past 24 hours as well as the last 7 days in the right window pane.
• Look for the ones that correspond to the times that your issue occurred.
• If any are found please double click and expand the error. This will open and give you more information on the error.
• Please include that in your next reply.

Yep you did it right.
Did you find any with time that matches when your system freezes?
Is the problem happening only when you try to open a messenger program?
If so what messenger program are you using?

I'm about to freeze it on purpose, and look in the 24 hour category to see what stuff pops up. I think that will be easier than trying to remember when it froze last night.
It only freezes when I try to open YIM, Google Talk, Live Stream Procaster, Meebo.com ETC. Really anything that requires me to input a username and password.
but it dosen't freeze when I use Windows Live or webmessenger.yahoo.com

OK that narrows it down a little then.
Go to

Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y
If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Let me know if this fixes the problem
