can i use a monitor as a tv ?

hi new on here so here goes
i am getting a new sky hd box but i cant get my hd tv till new year can i use a lcd monitor as a tv if it has a hdmi cable? how do i get sound ?

Not many PC monitors have HDMI input in on them. They'll all be designed around VGA and DVI. There may be exceptions to the rule.

The whole concept of HDMI is that's Hi-Definition. Anything that doesn't have a HDMI input on it isn't high definition capable. It's not something you can add on as such to a monitor.

With regards to sound on HDMI: Everything comes down the cable. You don't need anything else.
