Directx 9 Problem

Hey everyone,

Basically im having this on going problem with my computer..
Ive NEVER had a problem playing the Sims 2 on my laptop but recently my laptop battery died and the it recommended that i 'repair the PC' which i did, after which things started to go down hill from there

I can no longer run the game because each time i try to it comes up with the following message "FAILED TO ENUMERATE ANY DIRECTX 9 COMPATIBLE GRAPHIC ADAPTERS IN THIS SYSTEM".
This however is not true because my laptop has the latest version of Directx installed in the PC and ive never had this message come up, it only came up AFTER i pressed repair on my laptop... Its made my gaming life a living [bleep] !!

Its nothing to do with the SIMS 2 game itself as ive never had any problems with it what so ever... I really hope somebody can help me please !!!
