:tazz: I bought a cpu with only DOS, no working system. Then I bought windows xp. How do you install windows xp when all I get is "cannot run from DOS mode"?

put in the cd, boot, and it should walk you through the install.

I have and all it says it " this program cannot be run in DOS mode". When the cpu is turned on, it goes to device name; transfer mode, muber of drives then c:\>c: cddrvrs\mscdex/ D: ucd0001 then mscdex version 2.25 copyright © microsoft corp all rights reserved. then regular C:\>

thisget an fdisk, these generally work well with dos sincew it is dos based. thread has instructions on it ect. try searching the forums for fdisk too. Otherwise, im not sure.

Hi terrimack-
just to clear, this is a new system with only DOS on it, correct? nothing you need to save on the hard drive?
if you are familiar with how to get into BIOS, do that, and make sure the boot order is set to boot to CD drive, then hard drive.
if you need help with that, let us know, we can walk you through it.

once the CD drive is set to boot, boot the machine with your XP install disc in the cd drive.
