About a week ago, my computer contracted the infamous TDS rootkit/Alureon infection. The main symptom was continuous redirects from Google searches in Google Chrome. I used various tools, including Hitman Pro, and the proxy server that was redirecting the searches was found and wiped out. However, Hitman Pro said it was still lurking on my system. I kept my fingers crossed. The redirects started up again, and I tried again. AntiMalwarebytes found "Rootkit.TDSS.Gen" and "Malware.Trace" and got rid of those. Gmer also found traces of rootkit infection, but did not offer a way to delete them.

What is happening now is that even though the redirects seem to have stopped (at least temporarily), I get the error message "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." Programs continue to run for a short while and then I get the Windows desktop (but with no icons) and there is no way to get anything going unless I force quit. When the computer starts again, one of the tools I downloaded along the way, "TDL Razor," is set up to run as a startup item and gives me these messages:

ATAPI infection found
Start I/O infection found
Driver system32\drivers\atapi.sys is infected by TDL rootkit

Then it prompts me to restart to remove the infection, but nothing seems to have been fixed upon restart. Assuming TDL Razor is legit, it looks like my computer is still infected with this pernicious TDL rootkit. I have tried to read up on what the rootkit is and how it works, but the explanations are beyond my level of technical comprehension. So here we are.

I am including the OTL 30-day log from my computer below in case that offers any clues:
