Open Start and find notepad, right click on it and select properties.

I need you to tell me the following info about your notepad.
Size

Under the General Tab I need:

Created Date/Time

Modified Date/Time

Accessed Date/Time

File Path

Under the Shortcut Tab I need:
Target

Start In

Then reboot and try opening notepad and tell me if you still get the error.

1.) Download WinsockFix.zip. (by: Option^Explicit) - http://www.tacktech..../WinsockFix.zip
2.) UnZip WinsockFix.zip (Pay close attention to where the file is extracted to.)
3.) Run WinsockFix.exe.
4.) Click the Fix button.
5.) Reboot.

Open C:\Windows and then right click on notepad.exe and select properties. Click on the version tab and Tell me the Company Name, and Internal Name. Under General tell me the file size. For size we are hoping for a number between 60-70kb.

I've asked for some help on your internet issue, and someone suggest uninstalling your ISPs software, and then reinstalling it and see if that fixes the internet issue.

Please open HiJacKThis, click on config, then check the two boxes next to Generate Startup list (should be list minor sections(full) and list empty sections(complete). and then click Generate startup list, and post the list for me?

Also do you have a Windows ME Disk?

Downlaaded winsockfix.zip. Rebooted. Still not able to get on internet.

When right clicking on notepad all I have is a general tab. The file size is 10.5 kb.

I'm not sure what you are talking about on the ISPs software.

I don't have a Windows ME disk. All I have is system recovery.

I think you are looking at the shortcut to Notepad.exe (from the start menu).

Go to My Computer, Then C Drive, Windows Folders and select notepad, right click on it, and then see if you have the versions tab. if you do, please look for the info requested above.

My shortcut is 345 bytes and has a shortcut and general tab. The one I am getting the information on says it is an application file. If I go to Start and Search for files or folders and type notepad.exe this is the only file it brings up. What am I doing wrong?

We need to find the main copy of notepad, the one where the shortcut is opening from.
I asked one of the people who work at geekstogo who has Windows ME.

He said that your notepad should be located in C:\Windows.

To get here, Open my computer, then C drive, then the windows folder. Hit the letter 'n' to jump down to file names starting with n, and look for notepad.
