Help! My DVD writer stopped recording CD's

Hi everyone!

I have an hp DVD writer 300c and a few months ago it stopped recording cd's and now it can only record dvd's. I've tried many things such as using different cd-r's, updating my pc, pc-doctor but none of them have solved my problem. If anyone could help me I'll be very appreciated because i don't know much about this topic.

The program I was using was the one that came with the computer SONIC RecordNow! version 6.0. I havn't used any other program. If anyone has any ideas please contact me.
