Halflife 2 steam help

We ever i create a new account (i don't have one yet) it says i'm offline, But i'm not because i have broadband and its always on, i need an account to play, it was my birthday yesterday and i got Halflife two, IT WONT WORK BECAUSE OF STEAM :tazz:

does a firewall get in the way?????

yeah it must be your firewall. i had the same problem when i bought it. make sure that your firewall lets steam, hl2 and cs:s go to the net.
