Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

I have run my Norton AV several times, and also run Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. I am no longer getting IE ad pop-ups, but there is something on my system that is trying to send out TONS of spam about spyware, software deals, lewd unmentionables, etc. to zillions of people I've never heard of. My Symantec Email Proxy keeps catching it.

Here is my HJT log

Hello multimediator, welcome to Geeks to Go! :D How did you find us?

Please run a free online virus scan here:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

When finished, Reboot your computer. Reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I am grateful for your assistance. I found you when I was googling away, trying to get information about my computer woes.

Housecall picked up a Trojan, which I deleted, and moosoft didn't pick up anything.

After rebooting, here is the latest HJT log:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINNT\localNRD.dll
C:\WINNT\1092367494.dll
C:\WINNT\Updreg.exe
C:\Program Files\TypeSAFE <- this folder <- trojan

I see you're running Apache, do you run a web server from this system?

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

You people are the best! <_<

Before I follow out your instructions, I wanted to mention a few things:

Apache: I don't run a web server from this system. It is just on my local machine for PHP development and testing. (I took a PHP class this spring.)

TypeSAFE is definitely not a Trojan. It is a legitimate program I use to monitor my keystrokes so that after every 20 minutes or so of typing, it reminds me to take a 5-minute break (I have repetitive stress injuries). So, naturally, I'm reluctant to delete the Program Files (I also run TypeSAFE at work and do not have this problem there; of course, they have a pretty amazing firewall.) The URL for the company that makes it is http://www.businessmetrics.com/

In the light of this information, does this change any of your instructions? I will wait to take action.

Thanks again!

TypeSAFE\ts.exe

ts.exe is the name of a common trojan, but if your confident that it's legit than leave it. It does look like a legit location.

We're not changing anything with Apache, I was just asking to be sure it wasn't installed without your knowledge.

Kudos and big hugs to the person assisting me!

I went through and did everything above except delete the TypeSAFE folder from Program Files, as we discussed. Here is the latest HJT log:

I've been back online for a good half-hour now and there have been no mass-mailings happening. Hooray!!!

Am I all clean? If so, I will go ahead and install Spywareblaster and Zone Alarm.

Thank you, again! <_<

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D
