How about typing (one at at time):

chkdsk /r

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

bootrec.exe /fixboot

CHKDSK(SAYS ALREADY IN USE) I ASKED IT TO BE USED AT NEXT START UP

BOTH BOOT REPLIES WERE NOT RECOGNISED OR IN OPERABLE BATCH FILE. I USED (bootrec.eze/fixmbr,same../fixboot

Ok, let's start all over again, but this time step by step.

How are you using the command prompt? I'm assuming you're unable to get into Windows, am I correct? And it's Windows Vista, right?

Ok, have you restarted your computer since? It'd be good to let it run the chkdsk. Note that this will take hours to finish. So don't panic if you see that it's taking so long.

do not know how to restart. the command returned chkdes is in use by another process.

then everything I subsequently typed,did not work and (C:\Windows\system32> and blinking underscore is waiting for me

So nothing opened up?

Can you bring up the Task Manager by holding CTRL + ALT + DELETE?

would not start BUT BOX OPENS (UNDER NEW TASK (type name of folder,document... and wind will open SO I TYPED SYSTEM RESTORE

did not open BUT I COULD BROWSE
