By the way, what's the initial problem?

When you say that the computer won't start, what do you mean exactly?

I need to know what the problem is exactly. Are you able to get to the desktop in normal mode? What exactly is the problem?

Let's try the System Restore thing.

On your keyboard, hold the Windows button and then press R. The Run dialog box will appear. Type Restore.

Look at your keyboard. Forget the screen for now.

On the keyboard, there is a special button with the Windows logo on it (usually in the lower left). That would be the Windows key. I want you to hold it and then press R (while holding the Windows key).

If you're finding it hard, go to Command Prompt and type:

It seems like you won't be able to restore from a previous restore point. So I guess we have to fix the problem ourselves.

Here's what I want you to do next. Follow the instructions very carefully. If you have a question, stop and ask before you continue.

Restart your computer.

Right before the Windows Vista logo screen appears, keep pressing F8 repeatedly till you get a list of options.

Do you have System Recovery Options listed?

I'll stop here for now and wait for you to reply.
