Since 2010 is near ending i decided to do a deep clean on my system like check for viruses and clean the hard drive and etc. I already ran the chkdsk utitly and thats all i did so far and it just got completed actually. Now what are some tips for cleaning out a windows 7 starter acer netbook. i think i might have a lot of junk. and also if someone could me with cleaning the INSIDE if possible of my netbook like for dust and all. and one more thing whats a good free online virus scanner except for norton or trend micro housecall?

Hi winxp123456 welcome back to GTG

I hope this topic is in the right section

I don`t think there is a miscellaneous forum ;) so I will try and assist you here.

i decided to do a deep clean on my system like check for viruses

Malware is only dealt with on that forum but here is a link to their self help cleaning guide http://www.geekstogo...cleaning-guide/

i think i might have a lot of junk

1st download and run Autoruns from here http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx this is only to help tidy up your HDD;
1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
Do not delete anything else, if you are unsure leave it alone and then do the following 3 steps;
1: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
2: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
3: Attach to your next reply.
Once you have done the above download and run TFC by Old Timer from here http://www.geekstogo...ds&showfile=187 If your system doesn`t automatically reboot when TFC is finished do it manually.

and also if someone could me with cleaning the INSIDE if possible of my netbook like for dust and all

This is more tricky, to do this correctly the laptop/notebook would need to be partially dismantled for access, the best you can hope for is to have a can of compressed air, remove anything you can, Ram, HDD, CD/DVD drive etc, once this is done blow the air through the exhaust vents and any other available openings, avoid prolonged blasts to avoid damaging components inside, the CPU fan, wireless card etc, above all only remove what you are confident you can put back correctly, take your time and be careful.

one more thing whats a good free online virus scanner

Use these http://www.avast.com...ivirus-download and http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
One bit of advice I can give that will cost you nothing but help keep your computer more efficient in the future is defrag the HDD on a regular basis, I do my computers once a week http://windows.micro...-your-hard-disk I hope the above helps and best of luck :D
