Hi marlana,

The procedure below will restore the original DELL boot information into the harddisk. From there we will start rebuilding windows. Please be patient. :D

  • Download the Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility.
  • Once downloaded, double-click R113024.exe to extract the files. (It will extracted to C:\Dell\R121517 folder)
  • Open the folder and burn Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility A05.iso to a CD using imgburn.

  • Insert the Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility CD into the optical drive.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Press <F12> when the Dell logo screen appears.
The One Time Boot menu appears.
  • Press the <Down Arrow> key to highlight the first CD listing.
  • Press <Enter>. The computer boots from the CD. A Command Prompt screen appears.
  • Type
    cd \MD2, and press <Enter>.
  • Type
    Repair
and press <Enter>. The Dell MediaDirect Repair Utility screen opens.
  • Press the <Down Arrow> to select
OK, and press <Enter>. The Done message appears.
  • Eject the CD, and press the power button to turn off the computer.

Now attempt to boot the computer normally.

Hi marlana,

ALso someone told me to try ubuntu saying it would delete everything and give me a new system to use is this true would this realy work?

Yes Ubuntu would work. Its a different operating system environment from windows (which means some if not most of your favorite windows application will not work - there are alternatives however) and its free.

But let me try to fix windows first. :D

  • Download DSRfix from here. and double click to extract the files.
  • Burn DSRFIXCD.iso to a CD using imgburn.

On the ailing machine.

  • Insert the CD into the optical drive.
  • Run the command " DSRFIX" if the results says no fatal error, proceed with next step.
  • Run the command " DSRFIX /F
Accept each fix proposed by Dsrfix. After proposals have been queued, confirm whether you want Dsrfix to go ahead and write those changes to your hard disk.
  • Eject the CD, and press the power button to turn off the computer.

Now check these conditions:

1. Restart computer, you should see blue "www.dell.com" banner across the top of the screen when the computer starts to boot. Check if windows would boot normally.
2. If windows would not boot normally, restart the machine and press Ctrl+F11 keys to check if Dell's custom restore utility will load.

Tell me how it goes. ;)

Hi marlana,

Congratulations. :D

Here are some recommendations to keep your machine in tiptop condition.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For Antivirus, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials

Windows, Java, and Adobe products should all be kept up-to-date on a regular basis so the latest security fixes are in place on your computer. Please refer to the following links on how to manage these products.

Here are a few other applications you might consider. Keeping your temporary file area clean, your Windows registry backed up, and backing up your important data are all good techniques.
  • Flush Flash - by Bobbi Flekman - cleans Flash Player cookies
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) - a registry backup utility
  • Cobian Backup - a very good backup utility - read the tutorial here
  • WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for Chrome and Opera.
Please remember that just having these programs is not enough. You must use them. Running a full spyware scan weekly, a full virus scan monthly, and checking for updates and cleaning your temporary files periodically is very important in keeping your computer in tip-top shape.

Finally, please take the time to read the following articles. Applying this information will help prevent future infections:

How to prevent malware by miekiemoes
Preventing Malware and Safe Computing by Rorschach112

This article will help you understand how you may have gotten infected:
How did I get infected in the first place?

Remember, you have to be smarter than the bad guys! Be safe out there! Posted Image
