hi, my problem here is rather complicated.

My windows xp was running perfectly well this morning, and in the evening, it was unable to boot. The message given was:
"\windows\system32\config\system " and require my original xp cd to repair.

sought help from another thread in "Windows XP™, 2000, 2003, NT" --
see thread here>>> http://www.geekstogo...32configsystem/

followed the steps, and after keying in the following in the recovery console,

1)copy D:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system D:\HiveBackups\system.bak
response: "the system cannot find the file specified"

2)copy D:\WINDOWS\repair\system D:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system
response: "1 file(s) copied"

it got slightly better, in the sense that when boot, it doesn't show my the corrupted system msg anymore.
however, after reaching here,

the screen would blank out completely. tried to restart normally as well as in safe mode, to no avail for both.
and was hence advised to seek further help here.

thanks in advance!
