First off, thank you for such a great forum. My Dell laptop became very slow, so I ran ad-aware and my computer was infested. I ran all of the suggested programs in "read this first" but these problems keep coming back. The online virus scan removed 23 viruses. Here is my Hijack this log file. Thank you very much for your time.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download LSPFix and run it. Click on connwsp.dll on the left window and click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Viewpoint
WinTools

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\
cnvmsnap.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Is the computer slow overall or is it just online?

For this file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe), I want you to upload it to this site and submit it. Post the analysis here.

Try checking and fixing these in HijackThis also:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyexpr.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AOL Fast Start] "C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0b\AOL.EXE" -b

That will disable some programs from startup. Restart and see if anything is improved.

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I did everthing that you asked, and my computer is still very slow during startup and when opening and closing programs. I ran Adaware again and items keep coming back. In addition, I ran a new virus scan and 7 new viruses showed up (all trojans, trackers, etc.) Here is my new Logfile. Thanks for the help.

The HijackThis log is clean.

I really need to know what files were infected with the viruses/trojans. So if you can, post the filenames.

What were items found in Ad-aware? Are they just cookies? Do not post the Ad-aware log here.

Run an online virus scan at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log here.

All of the viruses were located in the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Stacey\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\

then the files are:

counters.jar-7af90470-7786ddb7.RB0
archive.jar-1bc678c0-46afecda.RB0

Symantec says the file names are:
Xeyond.class
Worker.class
VerifierBug.class
Counter.class
archive.jar-1bc678c0-46afecda.RB0
Beyond.class
VB.Class

Thay are all in Quarantine - Symantec Antivirus.

THanks

You may empty that Quarantine folder.

Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel->Java Plug-in and click on the Cache tab. Then click on the Clear button and hit OK.
